So I just put together a Yelp page, a wedding wire, and a business Facebook page (well, the bones of one anyway) and in my marketing extravaganza I am thinking my Lola Event Floral Design logo needs a do-over. Flower-Brained will be getting one too but that is still in the works. A special font does not a logo make. So in an attempt to turn my logo from “Wha-Whaaaaaa” to “Wow” I think I need your help. I’m stuck.
Like most artistic endeavors, I inevitably hit the point where I think, “What the hell am I doing? This is lame-o.”
This last week, I would put a logo together, then step back and think, “Well, I like it but will they like it?” Then I am thinking back to all the times in my life when I liked it but they didn’t like it. There was a glue eating incident in kindergarten, Slug-licking in elementary school, an early floral arrangement I made for my first boyfriend and had sent to his school (fyi, boys don’t like that), any musical solos of mine that ever took place, misunderstood paintings and sculptures in college….
So I redo the logo. Then I show it to my sweetie-pie. “It looks Japanese,” he says.
Ok, Japanese isn’t bad. But I’m not Japanese. And my floral technique isn’t Japanese. (sigh) Do over.
Then it looks like a baseball team logo… do over.
Then a Hawaiian theme… do over.
And over,
and now I have 6 options. SIX!
Please save me and tell me which one you like. The thing is… I’ve done this before. I’ve done at least four logos for businesses that have become their THING, their brand. Not sure why this is so hard this time. Clearly, I am a difficult client for myself.
I don’t really have any requirements, only that it looks good, is readable, and kind of evokes a quirky, naturalistic, sculptural quality. These are all hand-drawn so the final selection will be all sleek and spiffed up. So…. here we go.
Number One: This one uses my current font and smacks that flower in the middle as the ‘o’. This is the so-called ‘Japanese’ one.
Number Two: I like this one. Don’t worry the little floating text will be made more readable.
Number Three: Eh… Not sure why the dots. I think it would look good as a sticker. What do you think?
Number Four: Or maybe no dot explosion thing?
Number Six: I like this one, but I might get rid of the dangley on the ‘l’. This is floral design not Thriller. Would it look too Hawaiian then?
Well, thank you for your help. Please post what you like One through Six. You will have saved me from self-loathing.

I like 4…nice clean lines but quirky and memorable. I like quirky.
I like 5…classy and bold and clear. Also love that flower. i think this is my most favorite.
Thanks Kathleen! the flower is our native rose abstracted.
I like 5 and 6 with a leaning toward six. Six says who you are what you do and it looks classy….
Thanks Ivonne!
okay torn between 5 and 6…they both look really good, 5 seems to flow better than 6……
Hey Emily,
I like #5 – it gives the fun, creative whimsical feeling that you’re probably looking for but also involves what your business actually is: florals, flowers, etc.
You might think about using a different color for the flower and leaving the other letters black? Or using a standard font for the “event floral & design.”
Remember that your logo is NOT your brand. I love your work.

So what is brand then? the whole package/ memory? Please educate me. I will definitely use a more standard font for the little writing and color. Thanks Heather!
5 and 6…..6 is my favorite. I think without much explanation, this applies all the traits you mentioned needed to brand your briliant whimsy with flair. Good girl. Keep it and stop designing. Full minds make everything difficult and I love your wedding invites.
Yippeee!
